Just wondering...

Who is more evolved? a peace lover who is willing to die for the sake of peace or a brute who kills others for his survival? Doesnt the survival of the fittest rule by its very nature encourage violence, as opposed to co existence? Then as human beings, can we ever really make peace or unselfish love?
