I hogged and hogged and hogged
My stomach was full but my heart
was not
I ate, drank, travelled, created
My heart was temporarily
distracted,
Sometimes even excited,
But always back to feeling void,
wanting more
More and more and more
A void that neither knowledge nor
passion could conquer
My waistline grew, hairline receded
I wasn’t happy with success, family
or love
Every answer in the book
failing to cure my appetite
Till I learnt
Contentment can’t be found by
filling
It has to be found by emptying
I felt free, light and
irresponsible
Back to being a child
Back into my mother’s womb
Unconscious and accepting
that life was inherently
purposeless
And man sought purpose all his life
in vehemently trying to deny it.
