A hero can be ideal like 'Ram', because of social conditioning; And also because everyone by the natural way of life, automatically tries to be a hero, by trying to walk down a well defined path, by doing the required things and right things
Noone however, ever sets out to be a villian by choice, and being a villian, while can be a function of circumstances, its never a function of social conditioning...therefore there can be a lot of complexity, and ambiguity while defining a villian. Also, a villian has more choice to follow and explore his desires, however primal or complex, because he has decided to go beyond social conditioning.
Therefore, being on the side of the society, you consciously aspire to be a hero, and subconsciously aspire to be the villian as well...to hold that power, to be able to confidently do wrong without regret or worry about the society
When the hero becomes ambiguous and the villian becomes ambigious too, it should be fun, because one would wonder a lot more...about society, desires, and heroes and villians as such
Must cook up a story with ambiguous heroes and villians sometime to explore this idea more...
