McLuhan and immutable laws of media

Quoting from Vogel's Entertainment Industry Economics:

"To understand the role of internet, as it relates generally to movies, music, broadcasting, cable and publishing as well as to video games and gaming - the gamut of entertainment services - it is important first to understand the 'rules of the road' that affect the use and progress of any and all media.

Laws of media by McLuhan:

Extension: Every technology extends or amplifies some organ or faculty of the user. For example, the wheel (e.g. in the form of a bicycle or a car) is an extension of the foot. Media amplify or enhance aspects of social culture
Closure: Equilibrium requires that, when one area of experience is heightened or intensified, another is diminished or numbed. For instance, its possible to read a book and listen to music at the same time, but neither the reading, nor the listening experience can then be of maximum intensity. Or in another meaning, in watching a film or television show, the viewer's attention to dialogue and sound or vice versa will be overpowered by extremely bright colors or graphic images. New media create obsolescence or push older media out of prominence
Reversal: Every form, pushed to the limits of its potential reverses its characteristics (e.g. the network (internet) is a computer and the computer has become a part of the network)
Retrieval: The content of any medium is retrieved from an older medium or previous medium (e.g. the books spawns a movie, which begets the play, the record album, the video game or vice versa)"

Remember Shiv Visvanathan tried teaching us McLuhan at MICA and none of us got it one bit...this is much better no (ok, except for reversal may be..)? and to know it was all there in our text book all this while!
